Cultivating Culture Consulting is led by strategist Angie Chandler. Angie hails from Brooklyn, New York, where she received her love for community-centered arts and her B.A. in History and Adolescent Education from CUNY-Brooklyn College. As a 1st generation American, her Afro-Caribbean, and Afro-Latina heritage inspires a focus and inclusion of global perspectives. Throughout her career, Angie has found herself spending just as much time on stage in front of theatre audiences as she has leading conversations in classrooms and workshop spaces. Angie’s time as a humanities educator continues to fuel her passion for arts education, advocacy, and equity. As an arts administrator and consultant, she’s worked with spaces of various sizes increasing community engagement, curating innovative public programming, and introducing new voices and opportunities to institutions.

Cultivating Culture began as independent facilitation, performance, and programming curation for theatre and arts organizations in Virginia and North Carolina. Chandler slowly built a client list that included supporting community engagement and programming initiatives of museums, city agencies, and small to medium arts non-profits. In Charlotte, NC, and San Diego, CA the work grew to include arts equity workshop facilitation, artist development, and social practice strategy-focused work. Years of experience, research, and opportunity led to the creation of Culture Mapping: San Diego (CMSD). CMSD is an ongoing data-informed research project that helps historically excluded artists and arts organizations gain increased access to media, government, larger arts orgs, and private funders. The work of CMSD expanded to include multiple interviews, an artist residency, and larger-scale consulting organizations like Mingei International Museum, Art.Power.Equity, California Association of Museums, and several independent artists. While currently reducing her consulting load Chandler continues to work on strategies to create a sustainable artist residency model, support arts orgs, build nationwide networks, and share best practices. Angie’s work via Cultivating Culture centers around creating a strong creative tapestry wherever she goes.

Angie is currently based in Santa Fe, New Mexico where she is working on a publication to help others Culture Map arts ecosystems around the country. Outside of writing and consulting when possible, Angie supports a team focused on crafting opportunities for students, artists, and communities to engage in impactful experiences as Director of Learning and Engagement at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum.
